Supporting Mental Health within the Frankston community is a key focus of the Frankston City Council. We have partnered with Australian Red Cross and Mental Health First Aid Australia to provide FREE courses to all people in our community.

These range from a 1.5hr online webinar, a half day workshop run by Red Cross, to a Mental Health First Aid Australia accredited 2 day course (facilitated by You Group Victoria)

This is amazing value for an individual or local organisation wanting to equip themselves and their staff or community networks with the right Mental Health tools.

Mental Health First Aid courses teach you how to recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health problems or a crisis such as thoughts of suicide. You’ll gain the confidence to give the most effective support you can and learn how and when to recommend and access professional help.

Every workplace, school, Sports/social club/group or local community will have people experiencing diagnosable mental illness and periods of feeling depressed. You likely know several people with these experiences. You can help by recognising the signs that someone isn’t coping, offering your support to listen to their problems, and providing pathways to additional support if needed. It is as important as ever for us to be on the lookout for those who may not be coping.

Understanding how to talk about mental health is an important skill. Many people feel uncomfortable and unprepared, and this can mean the conversation never starts at all.

This training is available to all people who live, work or play in our community, so please share far and wide so we have as many people as possible learning how to support those around them.
